I have a couple of people that have really shaped the music that I listen to. One is Kyle at More Cowbell, who I interviewed here for the “get to know your blogger” feature a little while ago. I got into a lot of bands because of this guy and his write-ups and favorites are always something I look forward to at the end of each year. Here’s a sample of his 5-10 favorite albums, go to his site to see the rest.
5. Sufjan Stevens – Illinois
6. Rogue Wave – Descended Like Vultures
7. Wolf Parade – Apologies To The Queen Mary
8. Cyne – Evolution Fight
9. Aimee Mann – The Forgotten Arm
10. Lewis & Clarke – Bare Bones & Branches
Also, you have to check out my friend Pete’s list of favorites for 2005. Without Pete, I never would have checked out the Rosebuds, Hem, Polar Bear, Cage and Jose Gonzalez, and believe me I could go on. Anyway, same as with Kyle, I will give you his 5-10 favorite albums, but go here to read his complete list along with some pretty sweet reviews of stuff you may not be so familiar with.
5. Polar Bear – Held on the Tips of Fingers
6. Cage – Hell’s Winter
7. Okkervil River – Black Sheep Boy
8. Sufjan Stevens – Illinois
9. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! – S/T
10. Lucero – Nobody’s Darlings

Yeah, that Polar Bear album was a serious good shock to the system. Check out Acoustic Ladyland too for more out-there limey jazz/punk (?) that’s searching for a home.
