Bare Bones and Branches

Last night I ventured out to World Cafe Live in Philadelphia to see Mi & L’au. Before getting a taxi for the trip, I called over to the venue to make sure the show was still going on, and I received a nice surprise. They informed me that Lewis & Clarke was the opening act. Lewis & Clarke’s “Bare Bones and Branches,” was one of my favorite records of 2005, and I really was happy to see them at such an intimate venue. They played about 7 songs, before thanking the crowd and clearing the way for Mi & L’au.

Mi & L’au were absolutely perfect. The crowd didn’t talk at all, and you can really appreciate crowds like that when you go to a lot of concerts. They played for over an hour. I picked up their album, and am looking forward to seeing their show in Madison at Cafe Montmartre on February 5th.

I was able to talk with Lou from Lewis & Clarke. He used to live in Philadelphia, but now lives about 2 hours away, “in the woods.” He was really nice and offered to buy me a beer. I think the majority of the crowd was there to see them, but stuck around, and I think enjoyed the Mi & L’au set as well.

The venue did not allow photography, so I am unable to provide any snapshots from last nights performance. If you are unfamiliar with either band, I have posted an MP3 of each artist for you to check out.
