I just ordered 4 tickets for my friends and I to see Death Cab For Cutie sans Franz Ferdinand (which I’m not too upset about), and the total bill was $126. That is $31.50 per ticket, and, in my opinion, totally rediculous for a band that only a year ago was playing for $16-$20. Major labels are great for exposure, record sales, and SNL slots, but a $10 increase in ticket price? Please let me know if I’m out of line in thinking I just got ripped off.
Death Cab For Cutie plays The Orpheum in Madison on April 21st.

Whoa. That’s pretty steep. Of the $31 per ticket, though, how much of that is service fees? My favorite is “convenience” fee. Whuh? Nothing convenient to me.

$5.50/ticket was for “convenience.”

I have to say there are few bands I would see for that price, regardless of that “hot” factor, or venue, or sheer desirability. This does seem a little over-the-top. Do you reckon they’re aware/bothered by it, or it’s just part of the “business”?

I’m sure they are aware of it. They’re ticket price is the same across the venues of their tour. Granted Franz Ferdinand is on the bill for the majority of those shows, which I still don’t think allows for the $31 price.

i can understand if it were for dcfc AND ff. but dang.

then don’t buy the tickets. wait till the overpriced, poorly produced dvd comes out.

ugh. this is why i’m glad i live in an area where all of the major bands that do come here are not to my liking and i prefer smaller, more intimate venues that charge three, if not four times less than your typical ticket price.
i went to a show last year out of state for one of my favorite bands who are on an indie label. because bright eyes was the headliner and the tickets went through ticketmaster. a twenty-four dollar ticket charge plus a seven dollar surcharge was horrible. and that was for ONE ticket. to a show out of my homestate that my friends and i went to. ridiculous.
when bands come to my area, i do go to shows as much as i can. i know it’s just easier for me to pay ten dollars and no ticket charge if i have to get an advance ticket (or pay cover on the day of the show) rather than spend extra money just to see a band for two hours.
and it also doesn’t hurt that i’m on a budget and i’m car-less at the current moment. so i have to limit the amount of shows i go to a month.

I don’t blame you for feeling a little gipped. It takes a lot to convince me to spend $25-$35 of my own money to stand on my tippy-toes to catch a glimpse of band members. No wonder I choose to listen to music at home and in my car more. Plus, I really go out to local shows more than anything else. I don’t want to feel like I’m at a football game when I see a band play.

wow. i saw dcfc this past october and i dont think the tickets were near that much. f that.

i bought two tickets today for the orpheum too. $68 effing dollars. but i dont want to wait until the regular sale because i just have this feeling that DMB/John Mayer-listening coasties will just have to buy tickets too because “dcfc is so in right now”. totally

i’m a fairly old school Death Cab fan, but fuck that noise.
i think prior to last fall’s First Ave show (which i think was $20), i’d never paid more than $12 or $15 to see them the previous 3-4 years at the very same venue. i mean i understand they’re no longer playing the Entry for $8 or whatever, but $31??
some of those Franz/Death Cab shows are $45 even… totally ridic

I just can say that you are a lucky son of a gun, man. I live in Brazil and I’d pay $100 to see Death Cab For Cutie.
Franz Ferdinand is going to play here next week for $50.
[But last year I was the lucky one: Wilco and Arcade Fire for $20 in Rio de Janeiro.]

I blame ticketbastard.

I passed up the pre-sale yesterday, I’m going to cross my fingers and hope that they’ll be a little cheaper when I buy them straight from the orpheum (at the least I’ll save $2 by not having to get them shipped to me)…plus, orpheum’s general admission, there isn’t any tangible gain from getting them pre-sale beyond not having the show sell out on you.

Be glad you’re not in NYc where’d you’d have to double that. Hell, it’s 28 bux to see Electric Magnolia co. here!

I wonder if part of it is the Orpheum — Garbage’s show last spring was $35, but the Milwaukee show was only $25.
And not for nothing, but I saw Death Cab a year and a half ago at one of the Rave’s “free” (i.e. $18 for entry and two free drinks) ticket shows, and that’s definitely the most I would pay.
February 9th, 2006 at 9:57 pm
Umm, you could pay $37 BEFORE TM fees to see Korn, or $30 BEFORE fees to see A Fricken Flock Of Seagulls in Phoenix . . . almost seems you got off easy for DCFC.
February 10th, 2006 at 3:39 pm
forget death cab- minus the bear, russian circles, and chin up chin up at the mirimar in milwaukee for $10.

I had to pay $75.00 to a guy on eBay for one DCFC ticket who laughed all the way to the bank. And Ben Gibbard was sick, so the show was not one of their best.
