Jim White Orpheum review.

Last night was the best show I’ve seen this year. I checked out Jim White at the Orpheum Stage Door. I’d been to the Orpheum theatre plenty of times, but I’d never been to the Stage Door. The sound in that room was incredible. The crowd was really attentive and Jim White was simply jaw-dropping. He’s got two more dates on this tour, Chicago and Ann Arbor. If you live in either of these cities, do yourself a favor and catch this guy live.

One of my favorite albums of all time is Jim’s album, Drill A Hole In That Substrate And Tell Me What You See. Insound has an MP3 of the song “Static On The Radio,” from the album, and if you like what you hear I can bet you’ll like the whole album.

The show last night was with The Handsome Family, but I wasn’t able to stick around for their entire performance. I’ve heard really good things about them, but other plans won out.

Back when No Such Place first came out, I had never heard of Jim White and saw that album on a listening station in a record store, I think in Charlottesville, VA. I listened to the first few songs in the store and just loved it, bought it, and listened to it nonstop for weeks. For a lot of years, I would ask people if they’d ever heard of him, and had never met another person who ever had. Now all of a sudden I’m starting to see his name.

He came through Atlanta last summer, but sadly I was out of town that week. I was sorry to’ve missed it and now I’m really kicking myself. But I’ll keep my eyes peeled for his next tour thisaway.
