Before I call it a night.

new pornographers.jpgI found out today that I won’t be able to make The New Pornographers/Matt Pond PA/dios (Malos) show at the Barrymore in Madison next Wednesday. I will once again be back in Washington, DC. Black Rebel Motorcycle and Elefant are playing the 9:30 club while I’m there. I’ve never seen or really gotten into either of those bands so if anyone can tell me if it will be worth the $15, I would really appreciate it.

The thing that bothers me the most about missing the New Pornographers is that it’s a rescheduled show from October of last year when the band had to cancel due to an emergency surgery. That combined with the fact that two other awesome bands will be playing on the bill. I guess I can find solace in the fact that Neko Case will not be performing.  Anyone going to the New Pornographers show is welcome to report back here, I’d be more than happy to publish your review of the show.

Here’s a funny bumper sticker dealing with the recent Dick Chaney hunting incident.

I like BRMC, but have never seen them live. I would pay $15 though.

BRMC are def worth $15, they were $20 here

i haven’t seen them in 3 years or so, but they’re a really solid live band. while i didn’t like Howl, i’ve heard they’ve been playing close to 2 hours and a great mix of all their stuff.

Elefant’s first album is pretty decent, newest one is kinda crappy, dunno about them live tho.

that bumper sticker is just plain pathetic. why don’t you blame Cheney’s shooting a guy in the face on Clinton while you are at it.

Not making any political statements here, just thought it was funny.

problem is the right (on the cheney thing) is trying to make it someone elses problem and dodge the consequences. i get the humor too but find it kinda lame.

I’ve seen BRMC twice, and they are definately one of my top-tier bands. They just played Minneapolis, and their set was more than 2 hours long!! They played everything from their self-titled debut, to their Spread Your Love EP, to HOWL. Amazing show! The Johnny Cash duet with June Carter opener was perfect for the acoustic songs featured on HOWL.

Elefant, on the other hand, they’re terrible. The lead singer was a tool, big time. He was trying too hard to sound like Interpol, but with amazingly lame lyrics. It was pitiful. He even went to the lowest of all lows by grabbing and bringing some fugly girl up on stage to dance with him. He then took her hand and brought her back stage. I’m guessing she was either inebriated, which we can forgive her for, or she was paid off by the massive tool.

    Don’t miss BRMC!

Thank you, this is exactly the review/advice I was looking for. Just bought my ticket.

Unfortunately I’m in the same boat and will have to miss the show due to mid terms, which is unfortunate because I’ve been looking forward to it for something like seven months now. At least there’s coming to Milwaukee with B + S next month. Anyway I saw BRMC two years ago and they seemed rather boring…however it was probably mostly due to the fact that they went on after The Rapture, who put on a far better show.
