I’ll be seeing Nada Surf and Rogue Wave at the Annex on Saturday. If you live in the Milwaukee area make sure to head over to Atomic Records on Sunday where the guys from both bands will be putting on an in-store acoustic performance. Here’s the lowdown from their website:
Nada Surf & Rogue Wave Acoustic In-Store — This Sunday, March 5 at 1PM.
Spend your Sunday afternoon with Nada Surf and Rogue Wave. Ira and Matthew of Nada Surf will be performing here at Atomic this Sunday March 5 at 1PM. They’ll be on the road between gigs in Madison and Chicago that day but didn’t wanna leave their Milwaukee fans entirely in the lurch so they’re stopping by to share a special acoustic set with us. And it’s confirmed! Sub Pop’s Rogue Wave will join Nada Surf for this special in-store!! Open to the public, no admission charge.
Anybody from Madison hitting the show on Saturday?
UPDATE: Jason just left a comment and I confirmed with Strictly Discs that Rogue Wave will be doing an instore performance at 3PM this Saturday. See you there, and thanks Jason for the lead!

Catfish Haven’s debut EP on Secretly Canadian was reviewed by Pitchfork today. [7.6]
On the title track’s searing rave-up, staccato emotive bursts get swept up in a tide of concisely pounding percussion and stately rhythm guitar. Projecting from the diaphragm without overselling the memorable melody, Hunter’s voice can crank up like a lawnmower or suddenly dip into bluesy melancholy with equal facility, and on this track in particular he belts like Van Morrison at his amped-up best.

If you ever collected baseball cards as a kid or are a baseball fan, I highly suggest you check out the Baseball Card Blog. Some of the funniest stuff I’ve read in a long time, not to mention the trip down memory lane with all the cards pictured.

Can anyone hook me up with a ticket to the Lucinda Williams show at the Barrymore next Monday, March 6th? I’m willing to pay face value for the ticket.

I’ll be at the big show — I’d like to go to in the in-store but I suspect I’ll be too busy during the day on Saturday. And I’m glad to see Doughty’s coming back; his show last fall was one of my favorites of 2005.

I’ve been obsessed with Rogue Wave lately but I’m not so sure about Nada Surf. I need to decide, the Chicago show is on Sunday night.
Anyone have Nada Surf suggestions so I can be somewhat versed enough to decide to go? I’d pay the ticket price for Rogue Wave alone, but you know, I want to be sure…

Also, good call on that Baseball Card Blog. That takes me back fifteen years and more…

The only Nada Surf album I own is “The Weight Is A Gift.” It’s good, not great, but I’m hoping their live show expands on the album. I think there’s room for that. Rogue Wave is going to be great.

awesome, thanks for all the info.

Oh, I forgot to ask-I’ve never been to an instore performance before. Are they free? (sorry, i know, it’s a really dumb question!)
March 2nd, 2006 at 1:02 pm
Yep they are free.

Man, I’m so jealous! Rogue Wave is awesome live. I saw them in Ames last year. Totally engaging and professional.
I don’t know how Nada Surf is, but I think Kevin at So Much Silence caught some shows the week before last. He said they rocked.
