Tuesday’s mailbox favorite – Guillemots

Yesterday I checked my mailbox to find the new CD by the Guillemots inside. Having never heard of the band, I was at first hesitant about throwing it on the ipod. Then I saw that it was highly praised by some of my favorite blogs: My Old Kentucky Blog, Out The Other, *Sixeyes, and Badminton Stamps.

If you’re looking for a band that combines the sound of Radiohead (I’m not kidding listen to their song “Go Away”) and the delicacy of Rufus Wainwright on the hushed album closer, “My Chosen One,” then the Guillemots come highly recommended from Muzzle of Bees. In all honesty, I played this on my ipod twice last night at the gym and am listening to it again this morning. It’s that good.

They have a few US dates scheduled this month including the fabulous SxSW shindig in Texas, after which they head to Europe where they are the absolute shit (another good reason to check them out).

Be the Guillemots friend on Myspace.
