National High Five Day seeks musicians to form soundtrack.

National High Five Day is indisputably one of the greatest holidays of all time and this year it takes place this year on April 20th. For the special anniversary of the Fifth Annual National High Five Day, the creators have decided to try something unique and ambitious. In the past, they’ve assembled a fitting soundtrack for the day, consisting of a diverse selection of hits such as “Instant Karma” by John Lennon, “Make War” by Bright Eyes, “The Rising” by Bruce Springsteen, and “Golden Boy” by The Mountain Goats. For the 2006 soundtrack, the folks at National High Five Day are issuing a call for original songs that capture the spirit of the holiday. They intend to comprise a soundtrack of original works of artists both known and unknown, inspired by the themes of National High Five Day. What themes are those you may ask? Says co-founder Conor Lastowka, “The songs don’t necessarily have to be about high fives, but they should sound good when played loud while you’re outside giving high fives to a bunch of strangers.” Lastowka is hoping that the soundtrack can provide exposure to unknown artists and bands, although he is not without hope that one of his musical heroes, or possibly an artist featured on previous year’s soundtracks, or maybe just someone he’s heard of, hears about this and decides to record a little ditty and send it his way.
