What does Pittsburgh have to offer a guy like me?

This is Freddy Mercury

Queen & Paul Rodgers are staying in my hotel tonight. I had no idea they were in town. A guy in their crew offered me a ticket, but I decided to watch Prison Break and the championship game of the World Baseball Classic instead. Do people really shell out big bucks to see this show? For me a Queen show sans Freddie Mercury is not worth my last $5. Maybe I’m wrong, and if I am, could someone please post a comment telling me why?

This is Pittsburgh

I’ve been in Pittsburgh for two nights, one more day until I get to go back home. In the past two weeks I’ve been traveling quite a bit with stops in Florida, Texas, and Georgia. The latter being accidental and last minute, but it ended up being a great time. One of the best things about this hotel, (besides the complimentary shoe shines and having Queen here) is that my hotel room window looks directly into PNC Park, home of the Pittsburgh Pirates. I’ve always been a pretty big baseball fan, so I guess that is probably more exciting to me than it may be to others.

What have I done in my free time? Well, I’ve been trying to catch up on all the CD’s I’ve been sent lately, and trying to give them the attention they deserve. I’ll have my opinions on them in the next couple days. I also walked around and checked out some of the sights that Pittsburgh has to offer. I’d been in the majority of the skyscrapers during my business meetings, so I wandered around a huge department store that was 7 floors. I’ve been looking for new shoes for the past few months, but just can’t find the right ones.

I ate a Gyro today. Since college, there really isn’t a gyro that compares to Oakland Gyros in Milwaukee, and todays didn’t even come close. What was weird is here they pronounce gyro, “guy-ro.” I’ve always said and heard it pronounced like the European currency, “euro.” When I ordered mine today using the latter pronunciation, it earned me questions like, “Where are you from?” and “Have you ever had one of these before?” I thought that was weird.

Tomorrow, I’m going to give my best effort at seeing the Andy Warhol Museum. I have some time in the morning, but it will depend on how far away it is.

I promise this blog is not turning into a non-music blog, but this is the only way I can preserve my thoughts and memories on this rather uneventful trip to the steel city.

Queen with anyone besides Freddie Mercury is like saying Tom Waits is being replaced by Bob Saget. It’s just not right nor should any human being have to put up with it.

Oh, and definitely go to the Warhol museum, it rocks. They have his time capsules and packrat things. It’s interesting.

Hey there. I went to the Queen + Paul Rodgers show in Toronto on March 16th, 2006 and it was a great show. Though it is true that seeing Freddie Mercury at his peak would have made the show even better, it was still a great rock show. Hearing Under Pressure, Bohemian Rhapsody, We Will Rock You, and We Are The Champions live (with Brian May’s guitar work) was outstanding. Prison Break will be re-run and the Japan vs. Cuba final is a glorified exhibition game….the Queen concert would have been the better way to go. :)

Dude, Pittsburgh rocks…but it does have to grow on you. Too bad i wasn’t still there to show you a good time.

I’m moving some stuff up to Rhinelander Sat but if I can I’ll swing down for Madisonfest.

Most of us here pronounce it year-row–almost like hero, but with a little more yeee in it.

One thing it’s not is JIGH-row. That was the name of the inventor on Duck Tales.

uwmryan, thanks! We went to the DC concert as well, but did not bring any camera then… You should really try to catch one while they’re still touring… It was really great!
