Editors – The Back Room

Editors.jpgSometimes coming late to a band or album can be a blessing. It’s very easy to get overwhelmed by the latest buzz band and get caught up the the hype, only later to realize that the record really wasn’t “all that.” I’m sure a lot of you have had similar experieces with that notion, and understand where I am coming from.

The Editors were a group, whose name I was definitely familiar with, but had never taken the time to really check out. There have been numerous write-ups about the Editors live show, but rarely does a band use its first trip across the Atlantic to head to places in Wisconsin. Therefore, you must rely, as we often do, on the reports from various other blogs, to get an idea of what their live show is like.

From what I’ve read, their live show, much like the Arcade Fire, transports this band from being above average, to being a band that puts on a show that you’ll not soon forget. Since I only have the album to draw my conclusions on, I can say that I can understand what all the talk is about. The album starts off absolutely fast and furious, and I can definitely imagine and understand how this bands live show translates into something unforgettable.

If you’re a latecomer to this band, as I am, I urge you to check out their Myspace site to listen to a few tracks off of their album, The Back Room. For you MP3 lovers, head over to Amp Camp where you can download a track.

hmm… they are a solid live band, and def way better than their record (which is def fairly average), but i dunno that i’d call their live show THAT amazing or anything honestly…

    Editors, no “the” :-)

Thanks..Some bands are so hard not to add the “the” to.

What a coincidence, I just caught these guys last night for 91 cents (sponsored by 91X FM in San Diego). And just like you I had heard “of” them without having heard them. I’d say they’re definitely a solid live act, but I wouldn’t even mention the Arcade Fire in the same sentence as these guys. But it was fun, dancing to an infectious beat and playing the “guess what drug the singer is on” game. I think half of their success comes from timing and the popularity of dance-rock bands, but I still enjoyed bouncing around like crazy inside a packed crowd of perfectly motionless hipsters.

I’m not sure how Arcade Fire gets all this accolade for being a great live band which thus discredits other great bands’ ability.

Sure AF are great, but they aren’t the holy grail of live shows either. I’ve been just as blown away by Editors as I have any AF gig.

of the 3 AF shows i’ve seen, they’re some of the best shows i’ve seen in the last 5 years (out of around 300-500 shows)
