New shoes and new tunes.

At the beginning of the month I posted a review of the Editors album, The Back Room. Since then, I’ve continued to enjoy the album and am happy to offer a giveaway that includes some pretty cool stuff.

The winner will receive a signed 7 inch, a copy of The Back Room album, plus a brand new pair of Converse All-Stars. If you’d like to enter the giveaway, please leave a comment letting me know what the first album/CD you bought, mine was REM’s Out of Time.

I am not ashamed to say that my first CD purchase was Ace of Base. Who doesn’t find them one of the ultimate guilty pleasures?

  2. Jason Says:

The first CD I ever bought with my own money was either Hootie and the Blowfish’s “Cracker Rear View” or Green Day’s “Dookie.” Though the first CD I ever owned was Garth Brook’s self-titled. I still own two of those, but I’ll leave which ones up to the imagination.

The first CD I bought was Better Than Ezra – “Deluxe” at a Kmart in Madison. I had just bought my first CD player, and my father reminded me that I should probably get something to listen to on it. I hadn’t thought that far ahead, and I had no idea what to get.

CD: Boyz II Men – Cooleyhigharmony

I guess you could say I was a second cousin in the East Coast family. “back in school we used to dream about this every day. could it really happen? or do deams just fade away…”

    2) Dookie

“She don’t eat meat… but she sure likes the bone!”

  26. C. Greene Says:

Billy Idol’s “Vital Idol”. How was I supposed to know what “Dancing With Myself” was about at the age of seven?

  27. Blake Says:

Take off Your Pants and Jacket by Blink 182. I always had tapes before that.

  28. Patricia Says:

My first CD was, embarassingly, Hanson. Hey – I was in 4th grade. I can assure you my musical taste has improved immensely since then.

  29. Eric Says:

The first album I bought was “GNR Lies” by Guns N’ Roses… On cassette no less. My parents weren’t too thrilled about that one.

  30. Conor Says:

I bought Metallica (Black album) in the store, but had ordered Nirvana – Nevermind from BMG. So i probably had metallica first, but had ordered nirvana before I bought it. So there you go.

  31. Matt M. Says:

Weird Al Yankovic – Bad Hair Day
    and it was awesome

  32. Eric Says:

The first album I bought was an “Archies” album in about 1969 or ’70. It was even some off-brand cashing in on their popularity because there were no pictures of the Archies on the cover: as I remember it the cover featured these unidentifiable plastic disc-like things. The songs sure pleased me, though: I was 9.

  33. jgrow Says:

    Beach Boys- Greatest Hits
Creedence Clearwater Revival- Chronicle, Vol 1

I think they checked out the Beach Boys first, so they win.

  34. Lizard Says:

  35. Andrea Says:

    First tape: Whitney Houston “Whitney”

My first CD was “Meantime” by Helmet, and my first vinyl album was “Thriller” by Michael Jackson.

  40. Josh Says:

My first CD was also REM Out of Time, my second was U2′s Achtung Baby. My first tapes were Bon Jovi followed by C&C Music Factory. My last CD was Spin Doctors, over 12 years ago and it was so bad I haven’t bought a CD since.

  41. Chris Says:

Dance Mix ’93 – featuring the single “Jump” by House of Pain. Rad!

  42. Scrivener Says:

The first CDs I bought were Miles Davis, Kind of Blue and Jimi Hendrix Are You Experienced?.

  45. davis Says:

the first cd i ever purchased was also “out of time”… i was really young and just freaking loved “losing my religion”.

  46. Jeff Says:

Not counting the 6 CDs I “purchased” for $.01 from Columbia House, my first real CD purchase was “What Hits!?” from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I loved their cover of Sly and the Family Stone’s “If You Want Me to Stay”.

(and sorry to say, my first cassette purchase was the Top Gun soundtrack. It literally took my breath away…)

  47. jorge Says:

The first CD I got was actually two at the same time… both Beatles albums (The White Album and Sgt. Peppers)

  48. mike Says:

    They Might Be Giants-Flood

I still listen to it a lot. Great record

  49. Jay Says:

first cassette – duran duran, rio.
first cd – chicago 17 (the peter cetera era – yikes)

  50. Glenn Says:

    First CDs:

    R.E.M. – Murmer
    Roxy Music – Avalon

    (Got them the same day)

Now first albums or cassettes, is a different story…

  51. Evan Berkow Says:

I remember staunchly believing at age 12 that CDs would be a passing fad, and sooner or later everyone would forget the new and embrace the infinite wonders of cassettes.

So when that dream died, the first album I bought was The Beatles Anthology: III.

First cassette though, was Please Hammer, Don’t Hurt ‘Em by the Reverend MC Hammer. Those were the days…before I discovered something called “quality.”

  52. Casey Brown Says:

The Bodyguard Soundtrack – Whitney Houston

My favorite song (aside from I Will Always Love You) was “I’m Every Woman”. Before going to school, I would blast it in my room and sing along to get pumped up for the day.

Looking back, it makes sense while I was growing up my mom thought I was gay.

  53. Richard Says:

Mine was “Waking Up the Neighbours” by Bryan Adams. It’s still goo-……ah, it’s terrible.

  54. Andy Guss Says:

    Blues Traveler – Four

Now that I think about that I may just have to try and find it.

  55. Krista Says:

My first CD purchase was a two-fer:

    Beatles – Abbey Road
    Oasis – Definitely Maybe

Yeah, I had England on the brain.

  56. rrnate Says:

My first CD was the soundtrack to “Beverly Hills Cop III”, which seemed really cool at the time.

The one thing I could think of that was cooler than the song “Axel F” was the newer, more edgy version of “Axel F” on this soundtrack.

Now, it doesn’t seem as cool, but neither do I. Harumph!

    –nt–

  57. Jennifer Says:

First CD: Duran Duran’s Thank You

The first CD I bought was The Police – The Singles

  61. P Says:

First CD: Megadeth’s Countdown to Extinction

First cassette: a K-Tel Old School Rap comp from around 1985. Still the best mix of oldschool I’ve ever heard.

  62. Kevin P. Says:

The first album (vinyl) I ever owned was Kiss’s Destroyer (given to me by my next door neighbour). The first cassette I ever purchased on my own was Motley Crue’s Shout At The Devil. My aunt and uncle brought a copy home from China for my cousin. After hearing it, I knew I had to have a copy I could call my own. The first CD I ever owned (even before I had a cd player) was Stevie Ray Vaughen’s The Sky Is Crying. It was a gift from the same aunt and uncle who ultimately got me into Motley Crue. The first CD(s) I ever bought with my own money were Pearl Jam’s Ten, Nirvana’s Nevermind, Soundgarden’s Badmotorfinger and Teenage Fanclub’s Bandwagonesque. I can’t remember which came first because it was so long ago and I tend to buy cds in bunches (much like I do today).

  63. Ben Tenuto Says:

The first CD that I bought was “Together We’re Heavy” by The Polyphonic Spree.

Don’t know why; maybe they just hit a chord.

  64. Adeline Kwa Says:

The first CD I ever bought was kinda random: Mike Viola & the Candy Butchers’ “Falling Into Place”

My first cassette, I think, was a single of Toni Braxton’s “Breath Again”
