Nomo – Divisions [mp3]
While I may post an occasional MP3 during the week, I want to start a new feature that spotlights a particular song that is getting repeated plays on my iPod. The idea came to me recently when I realized that I’d played the Nomo track “Divisions” almost 20 times since getting the fantastic and highly recommended album, New Tones a few weeks back.
I can’t really put a better description on Nomo’s sound than you can get from their web bio:
An all-night dance party of the first order, NOMO’s new album remains true to the band’s mission to create raw, propulsive rhythms and infectious melodies. The horns are hot and the percussion is heavy, but the aural magic of NOMO is found in minimalist-inspired keyboard loops, fuzzed-out bass, soulfuly group vocals, and rolling blasts from the electric mbira.

YAY NOMO!
seriously, catch their live show. it’s so much fun. i’ve seen them live twice already and will see them a third time this summer (the second in only a two months.) new tones is one of my favorite albums of this year already and it’s amazing. good job with this one.
