Drag The River is one of those bands that I’d heard of but never heard. That all changed when I posted a new tune from the upcoming Lucero album and Virgil from IndieHQ.org was kind enough to turn me on to Drag The River with a few MP3’s. Turns out that Drag The River will be supporting Lucero in December of this year, so keep your eyes out for that bill.
Definitely some similarities between the two bands sounds as you will find if you check out the MP3’s below. I’m looking forward to checking out their full-length album to give me a better idea of the band’s sound, but until then I’m going to keep enjoying the hell out of these tunes.

Thanks so much for posting the tracks by Drag the River. We are a very small label and have the naive hope that the music, not the marketing budget, will speak for itself. Drag are great and work very hard. Speaking of which, they are travelling out west with I Can Lick and SOB in the House so check them out if they are in your neck of the woods.

I saw Drag and Lucero out West a couple years back and it was quite a good time.
Definitely check these guys out if you dig Lucero or good music in general.

The album “Closed” by Drag the River has gotten some very impressive critical acclaim over the years. Some well respected writers have even mentioned that record in the same breath as Willie’s “Red Headed Stranger”, believe it or not.

i didnt say it wasnt good, i just prefer the live act. besides, how can you go wrong with a country cover of hybrid moments?
they do some george jones too, as well as steve earle. they got their bases covered though it doesnt seem like they need to do covers at all. ‘get drunk’ is pretty much the best damn country song ive ever heard.

we are about to make a shirt for drag’s next tour that says “I love to get drunk” (front) and “with drag the river” (back). A great way to celebrate the band and the song “get drunk”!
