As my final hours in California come to a halt, I wanted to share a little bit about an album that my friend Jake and I have been listening to quite a bit. On Saturday we hit up Amoeba Music in Hollywood, talk about a place you could waste an entire day away at. Anyway, I spent the majority of my time there looking through the new and used vinyl, while Jake picked up an album by Explosions in the Sky, which we’ve listened to quite a bit over the past three days.
Sometime during my travels from Wisconsin to California, my laptop decided to die and I’m worried that I may have lost the 60+ gigs of music on my hard drive. I’m hoping that it will be an easy fix and am trying to remain optimistic. In the meantime, I still have my ipod loaded up and thanks to Jake’s great ear in Hollywood, the Explosions in the Sky album, “How Strange, Innocence” is coming home with me as well. Check out a track off the album below.

Dude, weird coincidence. Mine died [also with a sh*tload of music on it] on friday. I too am convinced it’s not a huge deal — I reckon the power/battery bits are worn out, as the battery can’t hold a charge lately. Definitely not a system crash, which would make me weep considering the music on there.. best of luck with it though.

dunno how familiar you are w/ EITS, but as good as that album is, the 2 that follow it totally SHATTER that album to bits.
one of the best live bands around too.

EITS is one of my favorites, too–not seen ‘em live yet, but glad to hear they’re good in person.

they did the soundtrack to friday night lights–and i stand by this comment, ‘your hand in mine’ is one of the best songs ever!!!

this album is my favorite EITS album ever. a long time ago, a friend of mine sent me a burned CD-R of this album and i fell in love with it, but when i moved from state to state , i lost the cd and was so sad until i picked it up the day after christmas (last year) and i fell in love all over again.
also, sorry about the laptop crashes. (i’m knocking on wood that mine doesn’t crash soon. i really am. i would be devestated to lose all of my music that i have on it.) *hugs* here’s to hoping all of your music (and more) is salvagable.

The band may be a little embarrassed by this album, but this was the one that really got me into them. I really dig all their stuff. I’ve been listening to the ‘Rescue’ EP a lot recently. If you hadn’t heard, they posted the whole thing on their website for free. Definitely a better alternative than trying to get a copy via eBay for $60.

Friday Night Lights soundtrack is fantastic, even if it has less of the heavier stuff, great album to fall asleep to.
there are some outtakes from that flying around that are really awesome as well.
Rescue is neat, but i’m hoping that it was just an experiment and that the new record isn’t along those lines (sounds like it won’t be).
they’re recording it here in Minnesota starting next month, might have to hook up a show here

Kyle-
According to an interview with Indie Interviews, the band tried doing the same approach of ‘The Rescue’ with their new record. They weren’t satisfied with the results so they scrapped them. I’ve heard a couple of new songs via bootlegs and they sound a bit more heavier than ‘The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place’.

cool, it sounds like it’s totally written, just needs to be recorded now, can’t wait
i have a feeling that they may finally see a decent increase in the size of their fanbase with this new record, regardless of what it sounds like.
they’ve been a band who is well respected but not really well known by many, hopefully that changes soon, they deserve it as much as any post-rock band around.

The song that has forever hooked me into EITS is ‘With Tired Eyes, Tired Minds, Tired Souls, We Slept’ off the album ‘Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Live Forever’. We should all go listen to it….right…..NOW.

Thanks for the comments. Got a chance to check out some more of their more recent music – great stuff!
