Sometimes you like a band, but you don’t realize the depth of that affection until something clicks. Something clicked this past Saturday when I saw The Go!Team for the first time and realized that all the fun I’ve had listening to their album Thunder, Lightning, Strike [Pitchfork Review] and turning my friends onto it evolves into an entire new entity in a live setting.
Those of you that live in Milwaukee, I’m hoping that you caught them opening for Sonic Youth at the Pabst Theater on Sunday night. The only excuse for missing it would that be even remotely acceptable is if you were in the windy city with the thousands of others that took in what I’m going to go ahead and call my second favorite performance of the entire festival as well as a bunch of other unforgettable moments. If not, welcome to my shit list….I kid.
When I find myself getting blown away like I did during their set, the following days usually revolve around me surfing the internet trying to find out as much as I can about the group and hopefully stumbling upon some MP3′s or video’s that I’d not seen before. My searches led me to The Go! Team documentry on YouTube as well as the Ladyflash video both of which I recommend. I snapped a quick couple of minutes from their performance on Saturday, per usual with YouTube concert uploads the audio and video never sync up, so I apologize in advance for that, but I still suggest you check out the high energy dancing that is taking place in this video. See this band if you get a chance, you’ll have a great time, and if you want to keep that feeling going, you may as well pick up their album afterwards as well.
