I promised (threatened?) Ryan that when he asked for some guest posts from me, I’d probably whip up a little hip-hop. So there’s no better place to start than Murs, whose Murray’s Revenge is one of my favorite albums of the year. (Oh, I’m Kevin. Obligatory link here.)
Murs, part of the Los Angeles-based collective Living Legends, is a gifted storyteller, an MC whose just as comfortable exposing his vulnerability in a relationship as he is weaving a witty street tale.

L.A., as its title might tip off, is a head-boppin’ joint dedicated to Murs’ home city, its trends and icons.

“Come to the hood where we do the most good / Magic Johnson be ownin’ everything like he should.”

Murray’s Revenge features production from 9th Wonder, who also teamed up with Murs on Murs 3:16: The 9th Edition. Another recommended album.
