Bole 2 Harlem was a group completely off my radar, but after checking out Volume 1, I can place my stamp of approval on this album. Combining African rhythms with chanting/rapping this album won’t be for everyone, but it certainly is worth your evaluation. As much as I like the album, I wish they would also put out an instrumental only version of this album because the music itself is what really stands out on these tracks. Drums and horns keep ones foot tappin’ and I can think of plenty of occasions where this disc would be completely perfect to soundtrack your evening.
Bole is the entry/exit point for Ethiopia, and Harlem is the entry/exit place for African music in America. This record is the concept of “ASHAGRE” -Building the bridge between those worlds… Creating a space where they can both exist without musically or culturally dilluting either one.
