Decibully stoped by Club 770 on Friday night for a free show with The Headlights. I caught up with William Seidel, who was kind enough to bring us up to date from their first show on tour.
Q. You guys are on tour with the Headlights that spans 26 dates and ends right back in your home state of Wisconsin. Are there any places you’re looking forward to playing?
Milwaukee, our hometown. Champaign, Headlight’s hometown. Our favorite shows are always where our friends live like La, Seattle, San Fran. It’s one of the perks of being on tour, visiting friends that we rarely see anymore.
Q. What music keeps you guys company on the road? Any band(s) or albums you care to recommend?
We love so much music. I would say some of our tour standards are Fruit Bats, Mojave 3 and random mixtapes. This tour’s theme song is What’s Careless Whispers, we must have heard it at least 7 times so far.
Q. The internet has dramatically altered the way bands can reach an audience. With things like blogs/myspace/etc, what are your thoughts on the power of the internet in terms of helping your music reach a larger audience?
I think it’s a great way to stay connected to fans and it really helps to turn on new people. I do feel, however, it kinda cheapens what people hear because anybody with garageband & a myspace can be “it.” It is a far cry from paying your dues on the road. To me nothing can replace the experience of packing up the van and rocking across the country with your best friends.
Q. Some of you guys are friends with the guys from Lucero, who are just about to release their latest album Rebels, Rouges and Sworn Brothers. Have you gotten a chance to hear the record, and if so, what do you think?
I haven’t heard it yet….They are the last great rock band and I predict another classic.
Q. Being from Milwaukee can you give the folks back home an idea of some of the bars or restaurants you miss while you’re on the road?
Wel, as a bartender at both Comet and Palomino I miss my coworkers and regulars. I also missed the opening of The Good Life, which my buddy DJ (drummer for my other group New Sense) and his wife just opened. I will stop in as soon as I’m home.
