In Wisconsin there is a saying that if you don’t like the weather, wait a few minutes longer. While experiencing a few relatively warm days recently it appears that we are well on our way to winter and with that brings winter coats, boots and scarves. Winter always plays a role in the music I’m listening to. I usually listen to more Neil Young records in the months of December and January than I do the entire rest of the year.
After spending some time with the recent release by Beach House, I think I’ve found a perfect winter record. It seems to make sense that a group from Baltimore would be able to capture the “winter sound,” after all, I’ve been in Baltimore in the winter and it definitely provides plenty of cold weather to keep you inside with tom and jerry’s and layers of blankets listening to records.
I guess it’s fitting that it just started snowing as I’m writing this as I’m six tracks in on my second go around with this album this morning. Please give this duo some time today.
