I’m going to write some things that are not nearly as important as you going to the bottom of this post and downloading the MP3 for the song “Pity and Envy by Summer Hymns; that is the most important thing you’ll get from this post. Summer Hymns bring their highly anticipated Mirsa Records release, Backward Masks to the musical player of your choice on November 21st, a date that can’t come soon enough if you ask us.
Claiming ignorance here and letting you know this is the first I’ve heard of this Athens, GA based group, but that limited scope has been so incredibly stunning that I’ve begun the proces of acquiring their previous albums. The band’s songwriter, Georgian Zachary Gresham definitely evokes a similar sound to label mate Centro-Matic’s Will Johnson. This is a rock and roll record with a little bit extra on the keys and melodies, but that’s what everyone wants with their R&R these days right?
Highly recommended for fans of MMJ, Centro-Matic, and Luna.

Thanks so much! Glad to see bloggers are starting to jump on the Summer Hymns. Zachary is one of our best songwriters in a town of many great ones (Patterson of the DBTruckers, Matthew of Phosphorescent, etc.). I really, really appreciate this!

Just listen Pity & Envy from their myspace page. Nice and still. Ideal for long road or rainy day.
Thanks.
