Two of our favorite records to come out this year were reviewed on Pitchfork today, and I highly recommend you check out each review, and hopefully pick up a copy of each album as well. The first is Horse Feathers who we first met up with back at the end of August and still find ourselves listening to their fantastic album Words Are Dead. Pitchfork gave the album a respectable 7.5 including the following snippet, “Listening to “Honest Doubters” from a distance, I heard the ghost of Jeff Mangum or Arthur Russell (a real ghost) via Kelley Polar.”
Hem swung through town back in September and I sadly (and for no good reason either) didn’t make the show. Our friend and MoB contributor Pete was there and had all sorts of great things to say about it. They released Funnel Cloud this year and while there are some spot on points in today’s Pitchfork review, I think it should have garnered a little bit higher score than a 6.1. Alas, numbers don’t make albums what they are.
Just in time for Christmas, be sure to check out Hem’s take on “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” below.

I’m not very familiar with Hem, but I found the song Half an Acre years ago and it’s amazing! Is all of their music in that sort of vein, or is it more varied?
