I got a press release today that I wanted to share because it was of a “super group” of sorts that I didn’t even have on my radar. The Good The Bad & The Queen is Damon Albarn’s (Blur/Gorillaz) newest creation and is being mixed by none other than DJ Dangermouse himself. The self-titled album is set for release on January 23rd, and it features Paul Simonon (Clash) on bass and Tony Allen (Fela Kuti) on drums.

A pre-order of the first single, “Kingdom of Doom” here which also gives you access to four additional tracks off the album as well.

Update: Gorilla vs. Bear has an MP3

GrecoRoman vs. Christmas

This post is geared towards those of you who have been enjoying Hot Chip all year. I stumbled upon the GrecoRoman Myspace page directly from my visit to Hot Chip’s page only to find some humorously brilliant material as well as some strait up danceable tracks. The track, “Madlib Greenery” is worth your time in clicking alone, and yes, it’s that Madlib.

Some further digging revealed this post on Music For Robots which includes a download of a nearly 60 minute set for your enjoyment. This Friday GrecoRoman will be teaming up with the Slutty Oysters, Four Tet and DJ Never Forget amongst others for GrecoRoman vs. Christmas.

Oh to be back in the UK…

Madison Record Stores Laud 2006 Albums

Posted on Tuesday 19 December 2006

Two of the best places to buy music locally in the city of Madison have released their best of lists for 2006. B-Side Records continues it’s tradition of having both current and past staff weigh in on favorite records and live shows. I urge you to stop by the store on State St., and pick up your own copy, but if you’re out of town or just can’t make it downtown, there is a PDF version for your review here.

Strictly Discs compiles each employee’s individual list on their brand new and revamped website. In addition to serving you at their Monroe Street location, you can now also order your music right from the convenience of your keyboard.

Reign Over Me

Posted on Monday 18 December 2006

I’m guilty as charged for taking an interest in the latest Adam Sandler movie Reign Over Me, which hits theaters on March 9th, 2007,  for no reason more than hearing Pearl Jam’s take on The Who classic that bears the same name as the movie.  You can get a very quick sample at the end of the movie’s trailer.  Definitely a track I’m looking forward to hearing as that was, and still remains, one of my favorite songs ever.
