The temperatures here in Wisconsin have plummeted well below zero (-14, when I left for work this morning), and all the schools have closed for the day leaving throngs of youngsters boarded up in their houses as their parents scramble to put together a game plan.
Menomena’s Friend and Foe has been keeping us warm as we ride out the cold weather here and for some time now. Already garnering themselves well-deserved high praise (8.5) from the giant that is Pitchfork, Menomena are about to have one hell of a year! Just underway on their tour in support of the album, the closest you Wisconsin folks are gonna get to the band this time around is when they play the Empty Bottle in Chicago on March 20th.
Friend and Foe succeeds where other albums released this year have failed by being a complete listen from start to finish. That’s not to say there aren’t stand out tracks, the Flaming Lips-esque track, “My My” stands out as the MoB favorite. If you’re looking for an album to be the benchmark by which future releases this year are to be measured, I think you need look no further than Menomena’s 2006 masterpiece.
Oh yeah, you can stream the entire record right here.
