Encore:No Love Lost/New York I Love You
We’re strugglin’ today as we attempt to pick ourselves up after a very late night/early morning at the Smart Bar in Chicago. After catching an enjoyable session with opener YACHT we were privileged to witness a truly amazing set by LCD Soundsystem. Seriously, if the opportunity to see this band comes your way make sure you buy a ticket for that ride. I know the year is young, but the benchmark has been set for show of the year as far as we’re concerned right now.
We could have (and probably should have judging from my hangover) left the Metro after the final notes of the LCD Soundsystem show, but stuck around for the two hour plus DJ sets from James Murphy and Al Doyle from Hot Chip. If you were there you’d have to agree that as good as the show itself was, seeing those guys mix it up on the turntables was worth enduring a day long headache and empty wallet.
A decision was made to leave the camera behind last night, but I did manage to snap a this one with my phone, so the quality is what you’d expect. Anybody else make it out the Metro last night?

I was in the same situation you were, though I wasn’t able to stay for the whole after party. I left around 1:30. It was definitely a show-of-the-year caliber set and the after party was icing on the cake (particularly if you grabbed an over-21 wristband earlier and could get in for free).
I was sore as hell the next day (no hang over for me!), but it was totally worth it.
YACHT was okay. Some of the beats were interesting and the guy was entertaining as a performer, but some of the songs felt a bit … thin. He kinda covered by having a lot of energy though.
And of course, it’s really hard not to get blown off the stage by Murphy and co.
