In 2003, Six Parts Seven released Lost Notes from Forgotten Songs on Suicide Squeeze. After owning Casually Smashed to Pieces, the groups brilliant 2007 release, I’ve been working my way backwards through their body of work and uncovering gem after gem along the way.
Lost Notes from Forgotten Songs found Six Parts Seven inviting some of their favorite musicians to add lyrics to an already assembled string of instrumental tracks bringing about some of the most beautiful recordings these ears have enjoyed in some time.
My favorite track, “Sleeping Diagonally” leads off the album and marries San Beam’s whispery vocals over a sunny day stampede of music. Rounding itself out nicely with contributions from Isaac Brock, Will Johnson, and David Bazan, I really can’t recommend this collection enough.
We’re on our way to New York City for the rest of the week, check out “Sleeping Diagonally” below as it will be soundtracking the rest of our day.
