Last night The Hold Steady held my soul. I could write endlessly, lauding the performance, and the good time I enjoyed with the other hundreds of strangers, but at this point words sincerely fall short of even touching an instant of gratification that came from watching The Hold Steady live.
It won’t be easy to forget the memories of last night. I felt like I was in the crowd for the very first time, seeing rock and roll in its infancy, and felt like I’d been given the keys to a secret society. I was up front, my calves are sore, my shirt completely drenched – all the result of witnessing my current favorite band.
The Hold Steady continue their tour across the US. I highly recommend you take in a show if they are within whatever you feel is driving distance. At this point, I wouldn’t advise against flying if that’s what it takes. Those that were there last night, let me hear what you liked the best. I’ve got a video to share sometime soon.

Glad to hear the Madison show was as incredible as the Milwaukee show! I particularly agree with the “rock and roll in it’s infacy” bit.
What did you think of Heartless Bastards?
Here’s a review of the Milwaukee show with videos/pics:

i spilled beer all over myself (owe ya one),
elbowed my friend in the face,
literally broke the watch off of my arm,
am still sore from dancing,
and, as if emotionally cleansed and absolved, woke up without a hangover for work at 9 the next morning.

Another awesome show, to be sure — I’ve got a couple videos up at etchouse.com, with more coming next week (also going up on Youtube next week).

The Milwaukee show was so great, it almost made me cry. I met Galen’s mom too: http://www.mkeonline.com/people/blogs.asp?id=359&entry=38020
