You probably remember our report of the train wreck performance Bright Eyes put on at the end of last month in Milwaukee at the Pabst Theater to kick off his tour behind Cassadaga.
We checked on him soon after an incident free stop in Minneapolis a few nights later, which got us thinking we’d gotten him in rare form. Today, Brooklyn Vegan details the “Conor Outburst” at last evening’s performance in Boston:
To close the night, an apparently inebriated Oberst started smashing all his instruments and the whole stage ended up being trashed to the tune of deafeningly loud guitar feedback. While it may have been fun for the 27-year-old Oberst, his actions came across as immature histrionics, which is the Achilles heel that he has faced throughout his career. Considering the sonic quality and powerful songwriting contained on Bright Eyes’ latest record Cassadaga, it was a shame to see all the musical, visual, and acoustic luxuries go to waste.
Hmmm…that certainly sounds familiar! The train rolls on tonight in NYC, the first of a seven night stint in the city. Keep us posted kids.
