Today: The Rosebuds in Eau Claire

the-rosebuds-sxsw.JPG

Night Of The Furies remains one of the best albums we’ve heard all year. The group has will play an early show today in Eau Claire at the House of Rock. The show starts at 4PM, which gives you plenty of time to have a good time and drive back home in time to hit the bars here before calling it a day. This is a homecoming show for The Rosebuds guitarist Justin Vernon, whose Bon Iver side project will kick things off before The Rosebuds set.

another EauClaire native and now full time rokker: Keith Killoren of The Drams (slobberbone)

That might be an interesting thread, WI rockers who went on to national status. Judah Bauer of the John Spencer Blues Explosion (Appleton) comes to mind as well as Milo of The Descendents and now UW-Madison Professor.

Then of course there’s the obvious ones, Les Paul, Violent Femmes. Is’t Steve Miller from Madison? Or did he just go to school there?

I was at the show yesterrday. All three acts were great. Land of Talk was awesome. Justin Vernon’s new material is interesting.

Steve Miller was born in the Milwaukee area and attended UW-Madison. Butch Vig, who also attended UW, is from Viroqua.

Deerhoof’s John Dieterich is a Wisconsin native. Warren Fischer (of Fischerspooner) grew up in Madison. Andy Hurley of Menomonee Falls is Fall Out Boy’s drummer.

The late Howie Epstein of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers was born in Milwaukee and grew up in Glendale. Jerry Harrison (Talking Heads) and Guy Hoffman (BoDeans) were also born in Milwaukee, while Jane Wiedlin of The Go-Go’s is from Oconomowoc.

And, of course, Liberace (West Allis).
