Sean Hayes: Flowering Spade

flowering-spade.jpg

Last year Sean Hayes put out one of my favorite records of the year when he released Big Black Hole And The Little Baby Star. It’s one of the few favorites from last year that still owns a regular spot in my rotation – simply a wonderful record start to finish. It certainly then came as a welcomed surprise that he already had another record on the way when I checked in on him a month ago. Flowering Spade will be released tomorrow.

Following a similar direction as his previous albums, Hayes trademark and unique voice is certainly present, this time bolstered with an impressive backing band that really compliment his tone. Driving around over the weekend with a car full of some of my best friends listening to “Baby I Do” certainly has potential to be one of those “summer songs” that everyone goes searching for as the weather creeps past the eighty degree mark.

I was even more excited to find out that he’ll be playing with MoB favorite Great Lake Swimmers at Schuba’s in Chicago on June 30th. We’ll be in that crowd for sure! Check out the video below of the title track, “Flowering Spade” recorded at Largo in L.A. February 24, 2007:
