Blitzen Trapper’s Wild Mountain Nation took a little longer to sink in with me, but since it has, there have been few records I’ve played as much in the span of the last two weeks. My initial hesitation came in the form of the band’s tendency, at times, to jump all over the board sound-wise, therefore creating some head-scratching on my part.

I’ve come to embrace or at least enjoy the differentiation throughout the record. I can remember reading comparisons to Wilco, which I can especially hear on the title track of this album, but also think their music is a perfect match for current tour mate and MoB favorite David Vandervelde.

I was disappointed to see that they won’t be joining David Vandervelde when he plays Stonefly in Milwaukee on July 28th, but am hoping they’ll make sure to swing through Madison or Milwaukee on an upcoming tour.
