Pitchfork Music Festival: Girl Talk

girl-talk.JPG

It’s almost five in the morning and I’m North Carolina bound for the first part of this week. Before I take flight, I wanted to give you a glimpse at just how crazy things got at Girl Talk, who closed down the festival (for us anyway) on Saturday night.

People were lined up across the street dancing and enjoying the show, check the video for a quick peek. Gregg had to cut his set short due to what I can only guess is the cops fear of utter pandemonium just on the brink of ensuing.

i so don’t get the fascination over mashups…

  2. Sally Says:

“don’t get the fascination over mashups…”??? this isn’t mashups, this is Girl Talk. if you don’t know the difference, you shouldn’t be posting comments.

  3. Jamie Says:

Ryan, you had some sweet moves on stage…

  4. Jeff Says:

    oh really Sally?

Greg himself has called them mashups… so maybe you should inform him he doesn’t know the difference either

what of his stuff is actually original music that he created? that’s right, absolutely none.

does he remix them? nope, they’re all the original samples.

i’ll admit i found Night Ripper amusing for about 15-20 minutes, but after that it’s just musical ADD for me.

Yeah, Girl Talk isn’t for everyone. I don’t ever listen to his records, but have always had a great time at his live shows – whatever they are.

  6. Apexa Says:

Damn it, I saw Yoko. Wish I just got to see a glimpse of Girl Talk & the chaos. Jesus that was pretty crazy!

  7. Jeff Says:

fair enough Ryan, i enjoyed his live show a few months ago as well, i just consider it more of a dance party than a musical performance, which is fine.

  8. wmanningiv Says:

i won’t argue that what gillis does is anything but mashups but yeah dude does make some of his own beats and samples

  9. Jeff Says:

hmm… i’d have to have it pointed out to me, because i can’t pick out a single part of Night Ripper that doesn’t come from another song…

in fact there used to be a website that listed the songs as in order as they happen.
