Bat For Lashes: Fur & Gold

bat-for-lashes.jpg

Natasha Khan aka Bat For Lashes has quite the voice and she isn’t afraid to let it shine on her debut album and mercury prize nominated Fur and Gold, due out next week on July 31st. Thom Yorke recently listed the track “Horse & I” as one of his current favorites saying, “love the harpsichord and the sexual ghost voices and bowed saws. this song seems to come from the world of grimm’s fairytales, and i feel like a wolf.”

I listened intently and happily to this record multiple times while driving a rental car all over the state of Pennsylvania and parts of New Jersey and Delaware. I was instantly captivated by her voice grouped with minimal, yet perfect background instruments – mostly piano, but sometimes delicate harpsichord and unobtrusive hand-claps. Her cover of Springsteen’s “I’m On Fire,” closes out the album and appears as a “US exclusive bonus track.” That song , by its original creator was one of my favorite songs growing up, and Natasha’s version does the song so much justice!

Fur and Gold is an album that can become a long-standing companion, that album you listen to as you’re about to fall asleep.

    Hey Ryan,

I have the import version of this album and was unaware(!) that the US release would contain the bonus of “i’m on fire”. The Boss is my idol so i was wondering if you could send me the mp3 of that track to tack on to the end of my album. It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.
