Review: Lollapalooza Day 2 – Saturday

I knew going into yesterday that it would be hard to top the previous day’s fun, but braved the dreary and slightly rainy weather to take in some pretty great sets that, good as they were, still couldn’t edge out the prior day. The highlight of the day, and possibly the festival as a whole was The Hold Steady’s afternoon set on the MySpace stage. We had a pretty good crew around, passing around shots of whiskey and vodka – my head currently serving as a reminder of that. A ton of long-time fans showed up, judging by the acre of bouncing, chanting heads up front, but the band’s energy doubtlessly drew in a ton of new listeners as well. Their set at Bonnaroo was great, but this one made that look like a warm up show. We talked to the guys afterwards about baseball, festivals, and their upcoming opening slot for the Rolling Stones in Ireland.

We rounded out our evening with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs from a distance so we could keep our good spot for Spoon. This was our third time seeing Spoon in the last two months and I must say that the Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga tunes are really becoming my favorites in concert.

Hung around the fringes for the first thirty minutes or so of Muse before we snagged a cab to the Double Door for an after show performance by Ted Leo & The Pharmacists and Chin Up Chin Up

Quote of the weekend: Completely out of the blue, Silverchair’s Daniel Johns announced, “I once had a dream that I vomited dolphins.”

The Hold Steady was fantastic. They really rocked. I was glad they did ’cause I ditched friends I’d told I would meet at Regina Spektor. I did a full review of Day 2, and you can find it here:

By the way, the photos you have up here are awesome!
