In less than two weeks Liars release their self-titled follow up to last year’s Drum’s Not Dead, which we were just starting to love by the time this brand new offering showed up.
The second track on the upcoming album, “Houseclouds,” is one of the best songs we’ve heard all year. On a recent drive across the Wisconsin countryside to pick up a friend from my hometown en route to Lollapalooza, we must have played that track five times in a row.
You’ll find no set recipe or cookie cutter sound for which you can pin down or label Liars sound. In fact, that’s part of their mass appeal, to me at least. With each passing listen you’ll find a new crevice, something undetected previously, enabling each listen to be as fresh and exciting as the first time you hit play on your ipod.
Liars is a bold and daring album in an age where taking chances can make or break you, this band made the leap of faith and have a fantastic piece of work to show for it.
Liars self-titled album comes out Tuesday, August 28th on Mute Records.
