Sometimes getting to a show early introduces you to a new gem, other times you get burned. At the beginning of March, I made the trek to Cafe Montmartre early to get a good spot for the Autumn Defense. One of the opening acts that night was Ferraby Lionheart, whose straightforward folk sounds were captured so beautifully within the venue walls that I raced to pick up one of the last remaining copies of his self-titled, six song EP.
I played that on the regular before catching him once more at SXSW. Since that time, and with baited breath, I’ve waited patiently for a full-length release, and come September 4th, that yearning will be met with the release of Catch The Brass Ring on Nettwerk Records.
The simplicity and elegance of the EP are still noticeable, however a more mature and developed sound come with the additions of horn, drum and piano throughout. One of those great albums that is perfect to wake up to and just as fitting to close down an evening.
