Each Tuesday stop by Muzzle of Bees for our recommended purchases for the week. Here are the albums we suggest for the release date of August 21st:

Artist: The New Pornographers
Album: Challengers
Label: Matador
Myspace: The New Pornographers
MP3: The New Pornographers – My Rights, Versus Yours
Video: Sing Me Spanish Techno
Upcoming: The New Pornograpers play The Pabst Theater on Wednesday, October 17th.
MoB: Yet to put out an album we haven’t loved, Challengers is one of the best records of the year, if not the best of this band’s career.

Artist: Architecture In Helsinki
Album: Places Like This
Label: Polyvinyl
Myspace: Architecture In Helsinki
MP3: Architecture In Helsinki – Heart It Races
Video: Heart It Races
Upcoming: Architecture In Helsinki play the High Noon Saloon on Tuesday, October 23rd.
MoB: New record label does wonders for this band, not that they were doing too bad before. We’ve been playing this one late at night for some time, now it’s your turn.

Artist: M.I.A.
Album: Kala
Label: Interscope
Myspace: M.I.A.
Video: Jimmy
MoB: Those keeping track of terrible album covers take note! Artwork aside, “Paper Planes” is one of the best tracks of the year. If you’ve been a fan in the past, you’ll find this one to your liking as well.

Artist: Rilo Kiley
Album: Under The Blacklight
Label: Warner Brothers
Myspace: Rilo Kiley
Video: The Moneymaker
MoB: I’ve yet to read one good thing about this album. How can that be? What happened? Sometimes major labels and pandering to a wider audience erase your creative spark.

Artist: Caribou
Album: Andorra
Label: Merge
Myspace: Caribou
MP3: Caribou – Melody Day
Video: Melody Day
MoB: Andorra expands upon the sounds we new and enjoyed when this band went by Manitoba. While we liked their previous release the Milk of Human Kindness, this album dwarfs it by comparison.

Artist: Josh Ritter
Album: The Historical Conquests of Josh Ritter
Label: Sony
Myspace: Josh Ritter
Video: The River (Springsteen Cover)
MoB: A great songwriter, with deep roots (see the Springsteen cover above) releases an album that finally puts him on the map in a big way.

I am not so patiently waiting for Challengers to show up on eMusic. I did download the new Imperial Teen, which is good.

I have, but haven’t listened to the new Imperial Teen record. Will definitely be reviewing it.

I’ve listened to the new Rilo Kiley album once so far. I really enjoyed the first handful of songs; not a big fan of the rest.

Actually, A.V. Club gave Under the Blacklight an A. I was really surprised considering I’ve heard pretty bad things about it myself. Haven’t bothered to really listen to any of it yet, all I know is I hate The Moneymaker.
