MoB Ticket Giveaway: The National @ The Pabst

the-national.jpg

The race for my second favorite album of the year has been underway for a couple months now. Boxer, the brilliant follow up to our 2005 favorite Alligator has certainly locked down the number one record of 2007 for us here at MoB.

We’ve been lucky enough to see the band a bunch of times this year, and each time, though similar, holds a different but meaningful memory. We were thrilled to help present their recent Madison stop at the High Noon Saloon and are anxiously awaiting their performance at the Pabst Theater in Milwaukee on Friday, September 21st. Joining them on this tour will be another MoB favorite and Tuesday’s Gold approved, St. Vincent.

Muzzle of Bees would like to send you and a friend to the upcoming Milwaukee show. Since we’re a big fan of the lyrics on Boxer, please leave a comment letting us know your favorite line or two, and we’ll select one winner at random.

Update (9/4/07): We chose a winner at random today. Dan, who was lucky number 12 won with his favorite lyric, “Hold ourselves together with our arms around the stereo for hours, la la la la.” Thanks to everyone for your submissions, and we’ll see you at the Pabst!

  1. CFS Says:

From Slow Show (I like the daytrotter version):

    “…every minute more unprepared”

    and then

“You know I dreamed about you
for twenty-nine years before I saw you
You know I dreamed about you
    I missed you for…”

It’s like the happy ending version of Neutral Milk Hotel’s My Dream Girl Don’t Exist. Well, maybe not exactly, but it made me think of it.

  2. Ted Says:

“It’s hard to keep track of you falling through the sky”
    -Fake Empire

  3. Dan Says:

    from Start a War:
We expected something, something better than before. We expected something more

    from Racing Like a Pro:
Sometimes you get up and bake a cake or something
    sometimes you stay in bed

    from Apartment Story:
Hold ourselves together with our arms around the stereo for hours, la la la

  4. Kevin Says:

“I’m so sorry but the motorcade will have to go around me this time
Cuz God is on my side”
    - All the Wine

    “I’m perfect piece of ass
    Like every Californian
So tall I take over the street, with highbeams shining on my back
    A wingspan unbelievable
    I’m a festival, I’m a parade”
    - All the Wine

  5. Corey Says:

“Ada I can hear the sound of your laugh through the wall.”

This line and this song (not to mention album) are destined for eternity. It always reminds me of another song about an absent girl, Bob Dylan’s “Visions of Johanna.” Except in Ada the songwriter’s feelings are focused so acutely and nearly exclusively on the sounds he hears . Sounds from other rooms, opposite lofts. These two songs play so well in sequence.

That particular line is so achingly precise though and is first heard at such a visceral point in the song that it’s hard for it not to be the line that stands above the rest for me on this album.

  6. Paul Says:

“We’ll stay inside til somebody finds us
do whatever the TV tells us
stay inside our rosy-minded fuzz for days”
    -Apartment Story

  7. alap Says:

I have your good clothes in the car
So cut your hair so no one knows

    -Daughters of the Soho Riots

  8. Mark Says:

    Get inside their clothes
    with my green gloves
watch their videos, in their chairs.
    Get inside their beds
    with my green gloves
Get inside their heads, love their loves.

  9. Rx Says:

it floats around and takes me over
like a little drop of ink in a glass of water

    green gloves

    and

another uninnocent, elegant fall into the unmagnificent lives of adults

    mistaken for strangers

  10. Joshua James Says:

    Easy, from “Start a War”

“Whatever went away I’ll get it over now. I’ll get money, I’ll get funny again”

There is something heartbreaking about that line that I can’t quite figure out what it means to me.

  11. Russ Says:

“you’re the tall kingdom I surround
think I better follow you around”
    brainy

“I wanna hurry home to you
put on a slow, dumb show for you
    and crack you up”
    slow show

easily my album of the year

  12. Dan Says:

“Hold ourselves together with our arms around the stereo for hours, la la la la”

  13. Joshua Says:

You get mistaken for strangers by your own friends
when you pass them at night under the silvery, silvery citibank lights

  14. Rachel Says:

tired and wired we ruin too easy

  15. Karl Says:

“Turn the light out, say goodnight; no thinking for a little while. Let’s not try to figure out everything at once.”

  16. Casey Says:

Make up something to believe in your heart of hearts
So you have something to wear on your sleeve of sleeves

  17. KL Says:

hey mob-just wondering if you’re going to announce the winners soon-i need to know if i should buy tix so they don’t sell out ;)
