Each Tuesday stop by Muzzle of Bees for our recommended purchases for the week. Here are the albums we suggest for the release date of September 11th:

Artist: Animal Collective
Album: Strawberry Jam
Label: Domino
Myspace: Animal Collective
Video: Animal Collective – Fireworks
MoB: Never being a fan of their previous work, Strawberry Jam won us over in a big way. Without a doubt, “Fireworks” is one of favorite tracks of the year, and album closer, “Derek” is approaching that status as well.

Artist: Charlemagne
Album: We Can Build An Island
Label: Sidecho Records
Myspace: Charlemagne
MP3: Charlemagne – You Are My Diary
MP3: Charlemagne – New Train
Video: Charlemagne – New Train
MoB: Remember Carl Johns and Charlemagne when they called Madison home? Of course you do. You probably also remember Pitchfork giving props to their last two records, Detour Allure and Charlemagne. Now calling Brooklyn home, and with a regular group of musicians, this band continues to grow and mature their sound.
Upcoming: 9/22 – Charlemagne/The Grizzlies – King Club, Madison

Artist: Ghostland Observatory
Album: Paparazzi Lightning
Label: Trashy Moped
Myspace: Ghostland Observatory
Video: Ghostland Observatory – Sad, Sad City
MoB: One of the best and most fun acts at Austin City Limits last year, was also the band that kicked off Lollapalooza for us this year, playing music they describe as “a robot making love to a tree!!”. This Texas duo can get even the squarest of the squares moving around like a dance floor veteran.

Artist: The Go! Team
Album: Proof of Youth
Label: Sub Pop
Myspace: The Go! Team
Video: The Go! Team – Grip Like A Vice
MoB: One of the best concerts I saw all last year was their scorching performance at Lollapalooza. The Go! Team returns with a brilliant follow up to their MoB adored Thunder, Lightning, Strike.

Artist: Joe Henry
Album: Civilians
Label: Anti
Myspace: Joe Henry
MP3: Joe Henry – Time Is A Lion
MP3: Joe Henry – Our Song
Video: Joe Henry – King’s Highway
MoB: Legendary producer puts out an album that is deeply rooted in folk and traditional songwriter mold. Unexpected, but warmly welcomed as one of our biggest surprises and favorites of late.

Artist: Simian Mobile Disco
Album: Attack Decay Sustain Release
Label: Interscope Records
Myspace: Simian Mobile Disco
Video: Simian Mobile Disco – I Believe
Video: Justice vs Simian – We Are Your Friends
MoB: I have Chris to thank for telling me I should really give these guys a third chance. On my first two encounters I was less than impressed, so if that makes this album a grower, so be it. Regardless, this album can and will keep you and your friends up all night long if you let it. I highly recommend you do.

Artist: Film School
Album: Hideout
Label: Beggars
Myspace: Film School
MP3: Film School – Lectric
Video: Film School – 11:11
MoB: Well-crafted and layered pop music fade in and out through an ocean of noise.
Upcoming: 11/2 – Film School/Land of Talk/Eulogies – The Annex, Madison

Artist: The Dirty Projectors
Album: Rise Above
Label: Dead Oceans
Myspace: The Dirty Projectors
MP3: The Dirty Projectors – No More
Video: The Dirty Projectors – Take Away Show #55.1
MoB: Admittedly late to their body of work, and having never seen one of their lauded live performances, we’ve found this record the perfect intro to their material and look forward to digging through their back catalog.
