You’ll see this everywhere else today, but it’s definitely the most news-worthy thing going on. Talk about changing the music industry, could this be the litmus test for future big name releases?

Ordering links are either non-existent or hidden, or I’m just blind.

I was able to get to the links a short time ago, but now the links have disappeared (or at least they aren’t operational). I hope someone fixes this soon.

Fascinating. They’re betting on the people who want the physical object being willing to pony up a ton for it, and I think they’re right. Separate the physical medium from the content and turn into a fetish object, while getting whatever you can for the content itself. The only mistake I think they might’ve made is the long gap between download availability and physical availability, because if the record stinks they’re going to lose some of the BOX sales and most of the just-CD sales. Still, this is probably going to have more of an impact on the music industry than any of their actual music.

Using my mac works fine. I understand you only get the bonus second cd if you order the box set. I am currently staying up as late as possible for this new cd. But by buying the discbox you also get the immediate download on Oct 10th. but its not hear yet as of 1:54 EST New York.

you have a choice of either the digital release or the boxset, which you won’t receive until december.
the reason they’re releasing it this way is because their record deal of 5 studio albums was completed after ‘hail to the theif’ so now, doing it this way lets their fans get the completed project as well as new record labels who will eventually make offers to sign them. i think its a genius idea.

Well it’s the 11th in far-ahead Australia and after some persistence with slow loading pages and slightly dicky web interface, the paid-for (I paid a pound plus the 45p fee) download link worked in a flash. Got the MP3s loaded, now I just have to ff through and find them, damn my shuffle.
Dicky web interface: Pages are slow to load. I hope this means it’s a success. Once you get to the optional payment screen enter the amount you want to pay ABOVE the 45p fee, and click “Update Cart”. Once the total is shown correctly you can click “Pay Now” not before.

I pre-ordered Rainbows October 1st. I put in that I would pay £10.00 but for some reason it charged me only £0.45. I received a confirmation email with my order number, but no download link.
I’ve been unable to find the download link so I’ve never been able to download the album.

Hi! I believe, having not heard the second CD, that some of the first, “free” CD, is filler. Not easily said, because I’m a massive fan. The album feels incomplete, too soft and mellow, uneventful even, and unbalanced. I believe Radiohead know what they’re doing. Usually they’ll put together a kick-ass combination to make an album feel complete. I suspect the non-”free” stuff on CD 2 has a few more rocking tunes like 15 Step and Bodysnatchers, which account for my favourites from “In Rainbows”.
There’s some nice tunes, catchy melodies, interesting lyrics, but of all their albums except “Pablo Honey” this is the one I’d listen to the least. I remember hearing a replay of Radiohead’s classic Glastonbury set back in 1997 (I think) and then soon afterwards buying “OK Computer” and being so blown away and excited that, despite the time of night (around midnight when I started) I listened to it in total rapture from start to finish, twice. THIS was the music I’d always wanted to hear and had been missing for years. THIS was the future. “In Rainbows” first two tracks captures some of that excitement still (not bad going ten years on mind you) but doesn’t stand up, IMHO. Still, by any other band’s standards, a high-quality bunch of tunes delivered nicely.
Can’t wait for CD 2 though.
In terms of prog rock albums of the year, what about “10,000 Days” and Tool?…

It’s radiohead LIVE I want. With the revolt against ‘big’ ticket agencies like TicketMaster I wonder how they will handle ticket sales?
Did anyone notice that Radiohead finally made a myspace?? it says it is managed by close friends and family, but seems legit since they post songs and even a tour map.
Radiohead myspace http://myspace.com/radioheadmyspace
Tracker map: http://gruvr.com/band/radioheadmyspace
For my part, I will NOT miss them next time simply because I forgot to check their website
