About three years ago I was going to see the Black Keys at Mad Planet in Milwaukee. Prior to that show my friends and I were shooting pool and drinking $1 Schlitz taps at the Corner Bar pillaging the jukebox for old favorites and new discoveries – winners got their choice and control of the selections.
My friend Mullins was on top of his game that night and he must have played every single song on Toots and the Maytals True Love record which featured guest appearances by Ryan Adams, Ben Harper, Eric Clapton and Willie Nelson. Having always been a fan of jams like “Pressure Drop,” “Sweet & Dandy,” “and “5446″ that was all fine by me. Pass by my house in the summertime and you’ll still hear those tunes pouring from the windows.
Toots and the Maytals play the Barrymore Theatre on Sunday, October 14th. It’s a great opportunity to see and hear one of reggae music’s legendary originators. Thanks to our friends at True Endeavors we’re happy to be giving away two tickets to the show.
Leave a comment letting me know what your favorite reggae album is to be entered for a chance to win. We’ll contact the winner by e-mail on Friday, October 12th.

Hands down, Bob Marley’s Legend. Ok, that was a joke.
I would have to say that Bob Marley’s Natty Dread would be the favorite that I own.

Prince Buster’s “She was a rough rider” album showcases the Jamaican sound just as rock steady was turning into reggae. With songs like Wine or Grind, Scorcher, Hypocrites and the title track, Prince Buster’s boastful and passionate crooning shows why he’s such an important foundation artist to both the reggae world and the kids in the UK who started the 2nd wave ska movement of the late 70s. An absolute gem!!

Hello Interesting insight into The Maytals. I have often thought about this myself. I think live music is somewhat related. On Wednesday I have the day off, so will look more into it.
