Tuesday’s Gold: What We Recommend #31

Each Tuesday stop by Muzzle of Bees for our recommended purchases for the week. Here is the album we suggest for the release date of October 23rd:

phosphorescent.jpg
Artist: Phosphorescent
Album: Pride
Label: Dead Oceans
Myspace: Phosphorescent
MP3: Phosphorescent – “A Picture of Our Torn Up Praise”
Video: Phosphorescent – “Full Grown Man”
MoB: “The music is inviting, and, once acquainted, hard to part ways with. On Pride, Matthew Houck has created a delicate late-night album that is perfect for guiding darkness to morning and keeping you in a constant state of lazy, wine-soaked equilibrium.” You can read the rest of our thoughts on this album in our review here.

besnard-lakes.jpg
Artist: Besnard Lakes
Album: Volume 1
Label: Jagjaguwar
Myspace: The Besnard Lakes
MP3: The Besnard Lakes – “And You Lied To Me”
Video: The Besnard Lakes – “For Agent 13″
MoB: The predecessor to The Besnard Lakes Are The Dark Horse gets the re-release treatment, and for good reason. This album is every bit as satisfying as their more familiar work. “The sound is fuzzed out and more along the lines of Explosions in the Sky on some tracks.” You can read the rest of our thoughts on this album in our review here.

la-cucaracha.jpg
Artist: Ween
Album: La Cucaracha
Label: Rounder
Myspace: Ween
Video: Ween – The Mollusk
MoB: I listened to Ween’s 2003 release Quebec almost daily in the months after its release. Their ability to transverse many musical genres, while singing about “cock professors,” was all we needed to start playing La Cucaracha non-stop the past two weeks. Sadly, we missed their sold-out swing through Madison last week, but we’ll do our best to catch up with them before the tour bus gets put away.

follow-the-lights.jpg
Artist: Ryan Adams
Album: Follow The Lights
Label: Lost Highway
Myspace: Ryan Adams
Video: Ryan Adams – “Down in a Hole” (Alice In Chains)
MoB: We’ve always appreciated Ryan’s recorded material, especially now on the heels of one amazing show in Madison, and a “talkative” one in Milwaukee last month. Always the recording machine, this is Ryan’s second album this year to be given the Tuesday’s Gold treatment.
