Bon Iver’s “For Emma, Forever Ago” Release Date/Tour

bon-iver.jpg

Look familiar? The cover for Bon Iver’s For Emma, Forever Ago “reflects the cold winter months Bon Iver spent recording the album in rural Wisconsin.” Cold winter is on its way, but luckily Jajaguwar has announced the official release date for the album, which can be in your frosty hands on February 19th, 2008.

While we are putting our finishing touches on our best albums of 2007, I can tell you right now that For Emma, Forever Ago will be in the top 5.

I guess you are not the only one hyping this Wisconsin product. From yesterday’s NY Times:

    Pop

    Kelefa Sanneh

The music of BON IVER percolated up slowly, spreading through blog postings and concerts, as more and more people discovered an irresistible little album called “For Emma, Forever Ago.” (In case you’re wondering, the official biography says, “Pronounced: bohn eevair; French for ‘good winter’ and spelled wrong on purpose.”) Sometime next year, the independent label Jagjaguwar plans to rerelease it, but you don’t have to wait: at virb.com/boniver you can hear the whole mysterious thing.

Bon Iver is the project of Justin Vernon, an indie veteran from Wisconsin (though he has also spent time in Raleigh, N.C.) whose falsetto pulls his strummy, pretty songs up and away from diffident folk-rock, toward something sneakier. And on Friday he and his bandmates come to town for one of the biggest Bon Iver concerts yet: a date at Bowery Ballroom, after ESSIE JAIN and before ELVIS PERKINS IN DEARLAND. At 8 p.m., 6 Delancey Street, near the Bowery, Lower East Side, (212) 533-2111, boweryballroom.com; $15.
