Galactic make their way back to Madison on Thursday, February 21st for a show at the Majestic Theatre. We cut our teeth on the funk and soul that comprised Crazyhorse Mongoose and Coolin’ Off. Their live offering We Love ‘Em Tonight sound tracked the latter half of my summer back in 2001.

Though we miss the good old days when The Houseman brought his uplifting and soulful voice to the equation, we saw first hand the new incarnation of Galactic this past summer at the Bonnaroo Music Festival. In fact, my friend Justin wrote for MoB that it was “hands down, one of the best shows I’ve seen in a while.” That set took us into the very early morning, but with guest appearances by Charli 2na, Lyrics Born, Lateef the Truth Speaker, Lyrics Born, Gift of Gab, Mr. Lif and Boots Riley who can blame us for sticking around (full disclosure: I left at 3:45am, Justin stuck around).

Galactic followed up this performance with the release of From the Corner to the Block, which continues to expand their musical palette by incorporating hip hop into their recordings and subsequent tour. Providing a great opportunity to see and hear this new and refined Galactic sound is their upcoming show at the Majestic Theatre in Madison that will feature Chali 2na of Jurassic 5 performing with Galactic on stage and Ohmega Watts as the opener. Should be a hot sweaty night.
