On February 12th The Bell will release Make Some Quiet on Badman Recordng and it’s also the first 2008 release to get stamped with our We Like stamp of approval.
Make Some Quiet channels vintage Joy Division and The Cure with a smattering of Turn On the Bright Lights era Interpol. The Bell hail from Sweden, and their first single, “I Am History” was recently featured as the NPR Song of The Day. While the physical album doesn’t see a release date until next year, you can purchase and receive the digital copy instantly by purchasing it here.
I could ramble on at length about how much I recommend this album. Instead, I’ve included their two videos below in addition to my favorite track “On and On” for your enjoyment.
The Bell - “Make Some Quiet”
The Bell - “I Am History”

another lame one hit wonder. Sounds exactly like that one band..um…ahhh…Joy Division? I am getting tired of bands with no talent remaking music which was already done right the first time. Just pop in ‘Closer’ or better yet, see the movie. Don’t waste you time with the lame band.

Your opinion means nothing. You’ve listened to one, maybe four tracks on this album. You’d have been the first to dismiss a band like Joy Division when they hit the scene as well, then embraced them once their popularity surged. That’s why your website sucks too!

As a big fan of Interpol, I really dig The Bell. I’m a new visitor to your blog, and really like the layout and content. Its now on my bookmarks.

Sorry to post again so soon, but I went to their Myspace page, and noticed they don’t have Interpol listed as an influence. They have Joy Division and Echo and the Bunnymen, etc.. but curiously omitted Interpol. I believe it sounds most like Turn on the Bright Lights.

Influences are ever-changing. Interpol are a good band, but we would sound the same even if they didn’t exist.
As for us sounding like Joy Division, that’s just plain weird.
Almost as strange as when a reviewer said we sounded like The Stone Roses. Great bands – crappy listeners…

lol, that’s hilarious and awesome at the same time the lead of The Bell would reply in a post here.
I agree with Mathias somewhat and don’t hear much Joy Division. But I think they sound like Turn on the Bright Lights which sounds a little like Joy Division.
So thus Stewart created Conan who created Colbert who created Huckabee. Oh sorry wrong topic.
Anyways, I’m really excited about this band. Is there a tour anywhere or SXSW appearance?
