Hayden :: In Field & Town

newspage_infield.jpg

My first exposure to Hayden came via his 2004 release Elk-Lake Serenade, which absolutely consumed me. From there, I backtracked through his catalog picking up Skyscraper National Park and Everything I Long For, discovering a new favorite artist along the way.

The release of In Field & Town earlier this month caught me by surprise. I knew nothing of its impending arrival. Having known, it surely would have gotten the Tuesday’s Gold treatment. Bringing things full circle is the recently released and stunningly gorgeous video for “Where and When.” Take a look and listen – tell me you wouldn’t want to be in that room.

Thanks, usually I am all over new Hayden releases but this one slipped by me. From what I have heard of the album thus far he seems to be going back to the sound he obtained on The Closer I Get and Skyscraper National Park; Which in my opinion is very much welcomed as I was extremely disappointed by Elk Lake Serenade. I can see how Hayden may have picked up a few fans because of Elk Lake but I have been sold on his talent since I picked up Everything I Long for in 1998, with songs like We Don’t Mind, Skates, and My Parents House it is an album that would be hard to top. Anyway before I rant any longer thanks again.

Thanks for pointing this out. My radar for 2008 releases is a little off so I missed this. My first exposure to Hayden was way back in 1994 when “In September” blew me away. I think it was on my top 10 release list back then. I’ll have to dig out my old journals and see.

very cool. i have elk lake and listen to it all the time, but for whatever reason haven’t explored the rest of his catalog. where should i go from there?

Everything I Long For is by far my favorite record it has tons of sentimental value but I was in love with it far before then. Plus when trying to familiarize yourself with an artist it never hurts to start at the beginning.

Pretty strong body of work, I don’t think you can go wrong with any. His new one is pretty nice though. Start at here and go back or start from the beginning.

Working backwards through the catalogue is a good idea as each record lends to the next. Skyscraper National Park is a perfect record from start to finish. And then you want to start it from the beginning again.
