Lullaby For The Passersby

frankel.jpg

Yesterday I wondered if the snow would ever cease. Last night I repeatedly uttered my distaste for the winter season. Last night my bedroom light flickered on and off to the point of annoyance, but never past the point where I get up and change the bulb. Last night I listened to Frankel’s Lullaby For The Passersby, coming on the highest recommendation from a trusted source. Last night I thought about a spontaneous and unannounced road trip to Los Angeles to catch Frankel in concert, all 1,978.35 miles door to door. I have plenty of reasons to stay, but last night I had just enough motive to leave. I would have never made it in time.

Michael Orendy is Frankel, we’ve exchanged multiple minuscule conversations over Myspace. I’ve enjoyed his record for some time, but never as much as last night. Providing a much needed solace to what is now self-prescribed seasonal affective disorder, Lullaby For The Passersby is a refreshing and balanced listen. Aquarium Drunkard puts it best, “the orchestration and instrumentation of latter era Elliot Smith, combined with the songwriting and world view of Richard Swift.” This record lends itself to multiple occasions: blending into the background while attacking tedious and time-consuming work, soundtracking a gathering of close friends, and providing sunny day dreams to those seeking shelter from a storm.

Today, I suggest you listen to “Thermostat” by Frankel.
