MoB: Homegrown: Bon Iver – For Emma, Forever Ago
MoB: 5 Questions with Bon Iver
MoB: Review: Madison Pop Fest
MoB: One of our favorite records of last year finally gets its official release. This record is an absolute must for any record collection, just ask anyone that caught him the last time he played Madison. Get your tickets right away for his upcoming Madison show, because they are going fast.

no-kids.jpg
Artist: No Kids
Album: Come Into My House
Label: Tomlab
Myspace: No Kids
MP3: No Kids – “The Beaches All Closed”
MP3: No Kids – “For Halloween”
MoB: 5 Questions with No Kids
MoB: David Byrne approved and sure to be one of the year’s biggest debuts and surprises, Come Into My House has been one of the most refreshing and fun records I’ve listened to this year.

grand-archives.jpg
Artist: Grand Archives
Album: The Grand Archives
Label: Sub Pop
Myspace: Grand Archives
MP3: Grand Archives – “Torn Blue Foam Couch”
MoB: “Grand Archives arrive as the result of good pedigree. Front man Mat Brooke was a former guitarist for Band of Horses in addition to being the singer/guitarist of Sam Beam approved Carissa’s Wierd. Thus it comes as little surprise that this album would come recommended to fans of both Band of Horses and Iron and Wine.” Read the rest of our thoughts here.

heretic-pride.jpg
Artist: The Mountain Goats
Album: Heretic Pride
Label: 4AD
Myspace: The Mountain Goats
MP3: The Mountain Goats – “Sax Rohmer #1″
Video: The Mountain Goats – “This Year”
MoB: This one has yet to rattle my cage the way The Sunset Tree monopolized my ears. Then again, there’s very little that John Darnielle has ever released that eventually didn’t find a place in my regular rotation. It pulled in a respectable 8.0 yesterday from Pitchfork and is sure to please both long-time fans as well as first time listeners.

headlights.jpg
Artist: Headlights
Album: Some Racing, Some Stopping
Label: Polyvinyl
Myspace: Headlights
MP3: Headlights – “Cherry Tulips”
Video: Headlights – “TV”
Upcoming: 3/30 – Cactus Club, Milwaukee | 4/2 – High Noon Saloon, Madison
MoB: Another great band to break out of Champaign, IL, which is now even better with the addition of Decibully’s Nick Sanborn and Shipwreck’s John Owen to the mix.

moonbeams.jpg
Artist: Throw Me The Statue
Album: Moonbeams
Label: Secretly Canadian
Myspace: Throw Me The Statue
MP3: Throw Me The Statue – “About To Walk”
Video: Throw Me The Statue @ Chop Suey
MoB: As far as favorite songs of the year go, “Moonbeams” is up there as far as early contender for song of the year. I knew absolutely nothing about this group prior to receiving their record, and after frequent listens I completely understand all the great press it’s receiving. I predict this will be a big year for this group, and I cannot wait to see them live.

the-golden-age.jpg
Artist: American Music Club
Album: The Golden Age
Label: Merge
Myspace: American Music Club
MP3: American Music Club – “All The Lost Souls Come To San Francisco”
Video: American Music Club – “Electric Light”
Upcoming: 4/11 – Cloud Cult/American Music Club – High Noon Saloon, Madison
MoB: I loved Love Songs for Patriots, still play it frequently to this day. I’m already quite attached to this new one, which is filled up with their trademark sound containing songs about their San Fransisco home base and drug use in bathrooms – tip of the iceberg, but you get the picture.

haughty-melodic.jpg
Artist: Mike Doughty
Album: Golden Delicious
Label: ATO Records
Myspace: Mike Doughty
Video: Mike Doughty – “27 Jennifers”
Upcoming: 3/21 – Mike Doughty – Turner Hall Ballroom, Milwaukee
MoB: Always a favorite of mine in concert with his unique voice and good-feel vibe, plus you can’t help but appreciate his blog. This record speeds by but is an ample follow up to Haughty Melodic.
