Film: Bottle Rocket

bottle-rocket.jpg

Bottle Rocket was Wes Anderson’s leap into directing that would eventually lead to Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou – enjoyed them all, especially their soundtracks/scores. Last night, for the first time, I watched the first incarnation of the collaborative genius of Anderson and Luke and Owen Wilson. The chemistry was certainly there, way back in 1996, awkward and charming. Always good for a laugh as the characters play out their own innocence and personal shortcomings.

After watching I sought out the soundtrack, which, like most Anderson flicks parlays a great collection of artists into the fold of the film, making it impossible to imagine watching sans those tunes. Instead, all I could find was this 21 track score composed by Mark Mothersbaugh (formerly of Devo). Perhaps that’s all there is, but for some reason I remember hearing other songs, just can’t recall any specifics.

In honor of the film, here’s something slightly unrelated but tied together by name, which is good enough I guess. Ultimately, both worth checking out.
