Steve Earle interview on ESPN Page 2

Posted on Friday 28 March 2008

steve-earle.jpg

It’s baseball season people! I’m counting down the hours till I’m full of hot dogs and beer watching the Milwaukee Brewers open up their season at Miller Park next Friday. My friend Neil, who’s much more on top of his game and season preparation, informed me of a recent interview Steve Earle did with Page 2, specifically about “his contribution, “Some Dreams,” to “The Rookie” soundtrack.”

Here’s a selection, get the whole thing here:

9. Who were your favorite players to watch back in the day — who is in the Steve Earle Sports Hall of Fame?

Earle: I was 6 years old in ’61 and we got the Yankees on TV — who do you think?

Mantle, Maris, Berra, Ford. Forget about it.

10. Who are your favorite contemporary players?

Earle: Roger Clemens and Andy Pettitte (Texas boys and Yankees). I’ll sure miss Cal Ripken, even as much as I’ve cussed him.

MoB: Review: Steve Earle – Barrymore Theatre, Madison

Video: White Denim – “Mess Your Hair Up” (Live)

Posted on Friday 28 March 2008

Coming away from SXSW I have a new vice in the form of Texas-based White Denim. My favorite track; a frantic, foot stomping, blues driven number “Mess Your Hair Up” that reminds you a little bit of the Black Keys and a little bit more like James Brown fronting the Stooges.

Get a taste/listen below from this video via Little Radio:

Elsewhere: The Drunkard shares Jim James/M.Ward acoustic sets from SXSW – a must listen, especially the Jim James penned “Smokin From Shootin” from the forthcoming My Morning Jacket record, Evil Urges.
