The last time we checked in with Evangelicals we were giving their record, The Evening Descends our Tuesday’s Gold stamp of approval. Now in the midst of a three day Wisconsin stint with fellow MoB favorites, Headlights, provides plenty of promise and worth your dough. Don’t miss them at the High Noon Saloon on Wednesday, April 2nd (that’s tomorrow kids!). I touched base with Josh from Evangelicals for our continuing 5 Questions with Muzzle of Bees feature.
Could you lend some information on the recording process of The Evening Descends? Where and how was it recorded, and were there any lessons learned that you’ll apply towards future recording sessions?
Most of the recording took place in various bedrooms and garages in and around Norman. I never really remember much of how or why something is recorded so whatever lessons I should have learned I’ve probably forgotten and I’ll end up re-inventing the wheel again. I use an iMac and an Mbox to record with.
We recently wrapped up our favorite concerts and albums of 2007, do you have any shows or albums that stood out as favorites for you this past year?
The Dodos in Brooklyn
Jens Lekman in Portland
A Place to Bury Strangers at SXSW
The internet has dramatically altered the way artists can reach an audience. With things like blogs/myspace/etc, what are your thoughts on the power of the internet in terms of helping (or hurting) your music?
I have a million thoughts on this subject. I think every young band should get sat down and someone should tell them, “there are going to be millions of things, articles, opinions, disses, misquotes, praises, written about you on the internet… don’t let it fuck with yer head.”
Who would you like to hear cover a night’s worth of your material? On the flip side, if you were to play an entire set of someone else’s songs, whose would you choose and/or enjoy playing the most?
The band we’re touring with, Headlights, just covered a song of ours…. this is the first time that’s happened. When i first heard the track it was a surreal experience. I like it when bands cover songs but I’ve heard our songs enough so, maybe a whole nights worth of stuff might be a bit too much.
If we were to cover an entire set I would love to do Purple Rain in its entirety.
You’ve got a busy tour coming up with Headlights this year including three stops in Wisconsin, any places that you’re really looking forward to playing?
Every night can be the worst night or the best night on tour…. we’ve never been to Madison so, I’m excited to go there!
